I so feel your pain. About a month ago I tried to plug in my external hard drive and my computer wouldn't recognize it, and it asks me if I want to format prior to use. I'm so angry. I have so much on there- all my movies, important documents (like past years' taxes) and all my photographs from when I went to Europe as well baby pictures of my friend's first-born... I'm still looking into ways to recover that data, hoping that all previous data has not yet been entirely lost. On a more positive note- I've been following you for years and I'm so glad you're back! I'm starting to think you should REALLY invest in some good backup technology. TimeMachine for Mac backs up every hour and I hear there's something similar for Windows as well.
